HIV/AIDS Community Health Education and Outreach Program.
The Grand Boulevard Federation, a 15-year-old community collaborative that serves the Bronzeville communities
on the Southside of Chicago, is implementing a new HIV/AIDS community outreach and education program.
This program, funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health Center for Minority Health Services, will seek
to reduce the negative impact of HIV on the health and well being of residents of the Grand Boulevard and
Bronzeville communities and surrounding neighborhoods on the Southside of Chicago.
In addressing the HIV/AIDS state of emergency among African Americans, it is clear that the entire village has
to come together to stop the spread of this disease. The Grand Boulevard Federation will develop partnerships
with local health providers, businesses, faith leaders and institutions, schools, community, public and private sector
organizations and agencies to carry out its mandate. HIV screening and testing will be offered and various activities
and events will be announced. We call on all of our neighbors and citizens to join in the broad outreach to heighten
awareness, educate, support and assist us in this important work.
Recent statistics indicate that HIV/AIDS disproportionately affects Black persons. While only 15% of Illinois residents
are Black, over 50% of the state’s population with HIV is Black.
